Circle Dancing
Something new
It is necessary to make it clear that' Circle Dancing' is nothing like as lively & energetic as' Country Dancing.' It is a collection of dances & music from around the world, done at a relaxing, easy pace with some being a little livelier than others but well within the reach of the third age era! The music, drawn from so many cultures, is a delight in itself & very much adds to everyone's enjoyment.
Easy and Enjoyable
It is an excellent way to exercise the memory as members learn to remember the simple sequences. This can also provide fun & laughter as we are reminded by the leader that there are no errors, just variations ...... and there can be plenty of them! As all dances are done in a circle, no partners are required so it is very socially inclusive.
The Happiness of Circle Dancing
Dancing in a circle is an ancient tradition common to many cultures for marking special occasions, strengthening community and encouraging togetherness. Modern circle dance draws on the rich and diverse traditional dances of many countries, including the Balkans, Greece, Israel, Russia, and France.
But of course, we have the Lanark & District U3A version, which is full of fun, laughter and informality.
Group Leader's Comments
"I have never seen so many happy faces with smiles and laughter as the dances progress. When we make mistakes it's hilarious and when we get it right it's fantastic! It's so enjoyable to be with other U3A members and it's such a good way to get to know fellow members better. It's especially good if you are new to the U3A & don't know many people."
