I live outside Lanark. Can I still join?

It doesn't matter where you live as long as you can get to our meetings or activity groups. Currently the majority of members live within a 15 mile radius of Lanark, but there is no local residency requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't know anybody in the U3A.

You can be sure that we will make you very welcome and we have team members who look after newcomers. They will show you around and introduce you to some of the other members so that you get a really good idea of the group.

What does it cost?

Membership is £16 per annum (£8 in 21/22). The U3A is a non-profit organisation. All the money raised goes to providing facilities for the members. The membership fee includes:

  • Attendance to all the monthly meetings

  • A regular magazine from the UK U3A head office which is packed with useful and interesting articles suitable for our age group.

  • A regular newsletter (via email) on the Lanark & District activities to keep you informed.

  • Free attendance to many of the activity groups. However some groups involve external expenditure (such as the outings and theatre groups) and this will require payment by the participants.

  • New friends, new interests, and great fun.

I am disabled.

The monthly meetings are held in the Lanark Memorial Hall with full accessibility. Many of the activity groups are held in the members' homes but we will do our best to make access and participation as easy as possible. We will happily discuss this with you.

What is my commitment?

Nothing other than enjoying yourself. There is no obligation to attend every meeting
